Weekend Hunt Breakfasts

The new hunting season is upon us, let’s begin in style…

Bring your favorite dish(es) to share to the first two meets, Saturday and Monday, for some after-hunt socializing and fun.  You bring the food and we’ll bring the drinks.  That will give us time to get the teams organized for future hunts.

Thanks…and don’t forget the ODH tailgate at the Warrenton Horse Show.

Photos: Pony Club at the Kennels (8/26/2011)

KLM Images has just published the photo essay: http://www.klmimages.com/odh_20112_1 .

In between this week’s earthquake and hurricane, we managed to sandwich in a visit of our Pony Club to the immaculately groomed hunt kennels, where they received a lecture on hunt riding, hunt attire, and hunt etiquette, as well as an introduction to the hounds in the pack.  The event was capped off with a wild excursion to the puppy run to meet the half-grown young entry.

Pony Club at the Kennels

There will be an ODH Pony Club visit and talk at the kennels on Friday 26th August 6.30pm. We will be showing hounds and talking about all aspects of hunting, dress codes, manners in the hunt field, do’s and don’ts, should be a great time for all.  This will be a wonderful way to support our pony club children and the future of hunting.  Might also be a nice refresher of the “do’s and don’ts” and “manners” in the hunt field for us adults.

UPDATE: Pictures here.

Hunt report: Henchman’s Lea (11/28/2009) – The Bobcat

Norman Fine has published a hunt report from Gus Forbush about a bobcat encounter 2 seasons ago and has graciously permitted us to republish it here.

20091128 – Hunt Report

This will be the first hunt report published on the website.  We’ll collect more of them and gradually build out our history area here. If you have any written hunt reports, or any other bits of our history, we’d like to see them so that we can add them to the website.  Please contact the webmaster.

To see the story in its original form, link here, and to subscribe to Norm Fine’s Foxhunting Life website if you are not already a member, or to get more information about it, see here.

Warrenton Hunt Night Tailgate

From Bird Mattingly to ODH, and I’m sure we’re all grateful:

We have obtained a tailgate spot for ODH at Warrenton Hunt Night, Sunday, September 4th.  Foxhunter classes start at 11 am and run through the evening; please join us whenever you are able – just look for the big green Jeep with “HARK PLS” on the plates.  A nibbly or beverage is always appreciated but certainly not required – we’ll be mixing “Horses’ Necks” for one and all.  The space is ours for the entire show so please feel free to consider it ODH territory if you plan to be there – the Hunter Classic is on Saturday at 7 pm and should also be worth a look.

Work Party – August 21

There is a work party scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, August 21.  We will meet at the Hunter Trial Field at 9 AM.

Bring weed whackers if convenient.  Don’t forget safety goggles.
