Trail Rides – August

Here is the schedule for our three summer trail rides.  There is contact information included in the schedule if you have questions.

Please print and share a copy with anyone you think might want to join us for the rides – or, for that matter, join ODH.

Trail Ride June 2 – CANCELLED

Due to heavy rains.

Today’s Trail Ride – Windsor Lodge

The Windsor Lodge benefit trail ride is STILL ON for today, Sunday, April 22.  If you don’t want to get wet, please come to the picnic at 3:00 anyway and help mop up the food.  This is a benefit activity for a good local cause!  (Donations expected for the picnic, please.)

Details: Windsor Lodge is hosting a 4-H benefit ride for the Rappahannock Livestock 4-H Club. The ride will be at 1:00 on Sunday (22 April) with a spectacular picnic provided afterwards. See flyer for map.

Spring Trail Rides

Trail rides start this weekend! See this flyer for details.

Windsor Lodge is hosting a 4-H benefit ride for the Rappahannock Livestock 4-H Club. The ride will be at 1:00 on Sunday (22 April) with a spectacular picnic provided afterwards. Please contact Stacey Fincham for further details (see flyer for her number). If it rains, the rain date will be the next Sunday (29 April). This will be a great ride to support a worthwhile cause.

The ODH rides start the next weekend (28 April). They will be Saturdays at 9:00 with the first one from Red Hill Farm. We have a total of 5 rides lined up (I decided to not try for mid-June since it may be really hot). Cost will be $25 for adults and $10 for kids. The rides will be casual walking rides for about 2 hrs. through our beautiful hunt country. These are a great way to get in wonderful rides, see friends, and support an important fundraiser for the hunt.

Thank you to all of my hosts!!! I had a really great response for volunteers and will be counting on those additional offers for the summer series. Thank you also to Bird Mattingley who will be helping me out as daily organizer (while I am playing soccer mom). I’m still looking for a Trail Ride Chairman to replace me – let me know if you are interested.

Dawn

Spring Trail Rides

From Dawn Colgan, looking for help for the trail rides.

I am looking at rides on Saturdays in April (28), May (12, 19, 26), and June (2, 16).

1.  I need volunteers to lead the rides and locations to go from. Locations must have sufficient trailer parking. You do not need to go from your own place – if you want to lead a ride from one of regular meets, just let me know. It’s bring a dish, so you don’t have to worry much about the picnic. I’d love to be able to set the dates by mid March to get them in the race program. I can provide general guidelines.

2.  I need someone to help me on the days of the rides to take money and waivers, set up tables, and be overall in charge.  My kids are playing soccer and showing, so I will likely miss a bunch of the rides.  I will provide everything needed – I just need a responsible body.

3.  If anyone is interested in taking over as “TRC” (trail ride chairman) for the future, I’m looking to pass the torch. I’ve been doing this forever and I know we have a lot of great folks out there who would do a splendid job.

If anyone wants to help with the above or if you have any questions or suggestions, please send me an email at ddcolgan@gmail.com.

Summer Trail Rides

The rides are on Saturdays and are every weekend in August.  Please note – the fee for adults has gone up to $25.  The trail rides are important fund raisers for the hunt as well as a great opportunity to leg up your horses and see friends.  Hope everyone can make it.  We’re hoping to have opportunities for jumping.

UPDATE 7/28

News flash.  Thanks to some eagle-eyed ODH’ers, we were informed of ongoing construction (ie closure) of the bridge on North Poes Rd.  We have revised the ODH flyer and changed the first trail ride.  Drew Schaefer is graciously allowing us to now meet at his farm, Crest Hill, for the first ride on August 6th.  We are to park in the field, but close to the main road rather than going down near the barn as done in the past.

The UPDATED flyer with dates and information is here.

Last Spring Trail Ride

Reminder that our last trail ride of the spring season is tomorrow, June 5.  It is at Betsy Parker’s Hunter’s Rest and starts at 9 AM.
